It started with a problem
While finishing their studies at The University of Auckland in New Zealand, Hengjie, Jordan, and Alliv started Notable.ac a web app for taking notes for university students. Became a finalist at the university’s Spark 100K Challenge.
The founders revamped what was Notable.ac into Notable PDF a PDF annotation app. Beta was launched in the Chrome App Store and Google Apps Marketplace. Reached over 1 Million annotations within the first few months.
Call us 'Kami'
Notable PDF rebranded to ‘Kami’ (means paper in Japanese) to suit the product vision and brand. You can now use other file types in addition to PDFs with Kami. The team also won the New Zealand Innovators Awards.
First Million and Edtech
Kami started the year with its first million signups, 20 million documents, and 40 million annotations. And ended 2016 with over two million signups, 31 million documents and 110 million annotations. Notably, there are over 4 million app and extension installs in the G Suite Marketplace and Chrome Web Store. Mid-2016 is also when Kami focused on education market.
